The Parks, Recreation & Open Space committee will be meeting on Monday, December 8 at 6:30pm at the UCLA Extension facility at the Figueroa Courtyard (261 S. Figueroa, classroom 104). The only item on the agenda is:

  • Presentation by the students of the Environmental Analysis and Planning class, part of the Landscape Architecture program at UCLA extension. The students are exploring parks and parkland in Downtown Los Angeles. The students will present their final projects for discussion.

  • Victor Moller will present information concerning the need for dog parks and discuss the harm dogs are doing to current green space.
  • Presentation by the students of the Environmental Analysis and Planning class, part of the Landscape Architecture program at UCLA extension.

DLANC is co-sponsoring a series of “movies under the stars” in Pershing Square during September and October. The screenings are free, and start at 8pm.

The Parks, Recreation & Open Space committee will have its regular monthly meeting on Monday, September 8 at 6:30pm in the restaurant seating area at Pershing Square. Special items on the agenda include:

  • Gunnar Hand will provide an update about Parking Day, which will be held on Friday, September 19th.
  • Charlie Olin will present on biking events. Charlie has organized a successful monthly, late-night bike ride that is Downtown-based for the last two years. His bike club is called “Sins
    and Sprockets”. He knows about planning routes and about having t-shirts/spoke cards made up for rides. He will share his experience and offer advice on how to organize such a ride.

The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space committee will meet on Monday, August 4 at 6:30pm in Pershing Square restaurant area. Special items on the agenda include:

  • Presentation by Dr. Kim Williams concerning the donation by the Rotary Club of a public clock.
  • Presentation by Gunnar Hand concerning two projects: a tree planting project for the entire downtown neighborhood council district, and an area-wide mural program.
  • Recommendations to allocate funds for Dramastage Qumran Summer Theatre in the Parks and PAL program for at-risk youth.

The Parks, Recreation & Open Space (PROS) committee will be meeting on June 30 at 6:30pm on the yellow patio at Pershing Square. Special items on the agenda include:

  • Presentation by Elizabeth Peterson concerning the PAL program for at risk youths.
  • Presentation by Louise Capone – Director of Programming Pershing Square, Dept. of Park of Recreation. Presentation on summer events, fall DLANC sponsored Pershing Square Friday night film series and organizing a late night cycling event.
  • Presentation by Maxwell Billieon-Recent park deal he has completed with the city of L.A.
  • Presentation by Dramastage concerning Downtown LA Summer Theatre in the Parks.

The May meeting of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Source committee has been cancelled due to a death in the family of the chair, Patti Berman. The next committee meeting will be scheduled for after the June elections.
