Stanley Michaels, the director representing Civic Center residents, has filed a grievance alleging a general lack of 72-hour notice for DLANC meetings.

I wouldn’t agree with Stanley’s assessment that 72-hour notice of meetings never happens, but it is fairly inconsistent. I’m also not certain that making the announcement on Yahoo! Groups would even qualify as a meeting notice under the Brown Act. To the best of my knowledge, DLANC does not post physical notices anywhere.

The Education Committee will not be meeting this month, due to the holidays and the rescheduling of the board of directors meeting. The next meeting will be January 9, 2008. Lesley Talpin, chair of the committee, also reports:

Yesterday at Project Homeless Connect Day our booth gave away 36 boxes of books. As with last year, the turnout was fantastic, and the conversations about books uplifting in every way. The Education Committee would like to thank all who made our part of this event possible, especially the docents at the Los Angeles Central Library and the Friends of the Little Tokyo Library.

We hope to post the agenda for each upcoming meeting as it is announced, but here’s a basic round-up of the regular DLANC committee meetings:

• Affordable Housing: 1st Tuesday of the month
• Arts: 3rd Wednesday of the month
• Board of Directors: 2nd Tuesday of the month
• Budget and Finance: unknown (committee is defunct?)
• Economic Development: not on a regular schedule yet
• Executive: unknown (irregular schedule?)
• Education: 2nd Wednesday of the month
• Homelessness and Social Services: committee is currently defunct (no chairs)
• Outreach and Communication: 2nd Monday of the month (with Residential Issues)
• Planning and Land Use: 4th Wednesday of the month
• Public Health and Safety: meetings temporarily postponed pending new committee chairs
• Residential Issues: 2nd Monday of the month
• Rules, Bylaws and Elections: unknown (committee is defunct?)
• Transportation and Public Works: 3rd Monday of the month
